Until now, only two different enzyme systems have been described to detoxify superoxide radical in the cells. This is the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and superoxide reductase (SOR). The results obtained by researchers at our laboratory bring a totally new light on the cellular mechanisms of detoxification of the superoxide radical.
