The Ferric uptake transcription regulators (Fur) are transcription factors that controls the expression of genes involved in iron homeostasis, oxidative stress and virulence.
Coupling iron homeostasis and iron-sulfur biogenesis could make sense and may open new perspectives. We try to decipher if iron-sulfur center in the Fur proteins from some bacteria such as E. coli is an artefact or a reality in cellulo and what are the structural and functional properties of [Fe-S]EcFur.
