Studying the iron-sulfur centers is better in vivo


Researchers at the Chemistry and Biology of Metals laboratory are studying the biosynthesis of iron-sulfur centers. Having structurally and functionally characterized the SufA protein (a protein involved in the biogenesis process of Fe-S), these researchers succeeded in this new study to express and purify SufA in its native form. They show that it is able to transfer its cofactor to other target proteins harboring an active [2Fe-2S] or [4Fe-4S] center. By demonstrating that SufA is an iron-sulfur protein, they point the importance of studying the metallo-proteins in a physiological context.
