To decipher NadA mechanism, researchers at our team and IBS/Group Metalloprotein used biochemistry and X-ray crystallography. We showed that DHAP and not G3P is the substrate of NadA that condenses with IA to form W intermediate. W, X, Y intermediates were trapped by X-ray using NadA variants.
