A new player in the homeostasis of Zinc

Zinc is involved in certain diseases (neurodegenerative, cancer ...). Researchers from our laboratory have recently shown that an ion channel (TRPC6) facilitates the import of zinc and when the protein is overexpressed, increases the pool size of the metal trapped in internal compartments of the cell. Finally, overexpression of TRPC6 is accompanied by increased expression of proteins related to the actin cytoskeleton, and changes the cellular architecture.
